- About the Church Today -

We recognise the changes that are taking place in the world today and that different patterns of life and living are evolving. We too are on the move. For this reason we proudly describe ourselves as "the church at the crossroads." Our response to these changing times is reflected in the many pages about the work of the church in support of the community it serves.

We are located at the Fairmilehead crossroads, right at the heart of the area of Fairmilehead. But we are also asking questions about where we are going. Can we be a church that is contemporary and relevant, serving and meeting the needs of the people in this area in the 21st century? Some people describe Fairmilehead as a family church and even a children's church. This is not too far off the mark. A few years ago we had the largest grouping of children using our premises out of all the churches in Edinburgh!

On a Sunday. the traditional day for Christian worship, there is the Young Church which includes children from all the different schools in the area. Week by week they are involved in a programme of learning which will teach them much about faith and about the Christian church into which many of them have been baptized. There are also opportunities for 'family' worship in the fullest sense of that word - all age worship which involves everyone from the youngest to the oldest, usually on the really important Sundays in the Christian calendar.

Throughout the week Fairmilehead plays host to a number of organisations for children ranging from Nursery Classes to Scouts and Guides. There is also a youth club for teenagers on a Saturday evening and opportunities to learn modern dance, ballet and tap among many other programmes organised with children in mind. For adults we have a long-standing study group which caters for those who are asking questions in depth. There are also a number of house groups. bible study groups and prayer groups which are open for anyone to join. There is a good social programme organised each year with golf outings, dances and parties - for those who have the time! Toddler groups, the Guild and a group called Forum offer opportunities for interesting talks and discussions and to form friendships and give support. We have something for everyone but as we are the 'church at the crossroads' we are always willing to consider other possibilities.

It can be difficult and even daunting to come along to a church - even a friendly church like Fairmilehead - for the first time. But a phone call to the minister or to the church office will make sure that there is someone to greet you whom you know - and why not bring a friend? Below you'll find links to all the pages specifically about the church, its services, activities, organisation and history. You can access other pages from the links bar, or A-Z,  at the top of this page.

We hope you enjoy your visit to this part of the site.
