The
Pentland Walking Group is a long established component of the social life of
Fairmilehead Parish Church and welcomes everyone interested in walking.
Families and children are always welcome especially on picnic walks.
This welcome is not restricted to
members of the church - anyone wishing to explore the fabulous countryside
around Edinburgh in company with our relaxed and friendly group is invited
to join us. Membership is free!
- What do we do?
-
Our walks fall into three broad groups.
Summer Walks.
These cover the April to September period and generally take place on
Tuesday evenings, leaving the church car park at 6.40pm.
Winter Walks.
From October to March we switch to Sunday afternoons and leave the church
car park at 1.40pm.
Picnic Walks.
These are usually longer walks on Sunday afternoons or full-day walks on
Saturdays or weekdays. Most leave the church car park but starting
times vary.
How do we get
there and how far do we walk?
We use members' cars to take walkers to the start point of each walk.
Before leaving the church we try to fill the cars as far as possible so that
the number of vehicles is kept to a minimum. There is always enough space
for those without cars. Sometimes we use local buses. Distances vary but most of our
walking lies within the three to six mile range.
