A wedding in a church? Congratulations to
you both!
Fairmilehead Parish Church is well placed to
provide you with a memorable day for your wedding and there are a number of
nearby hotels for your reception as well as a choice of church halls if you
prefer to use the services of an outside catering firm.
Our church is part of the Church of Scotland
and functions as a parish church within a specially designated geographical
area. We normally don't conduct marriages for people who live outside our
parish boundaries without the permission of the local parish minister in
whose area the couple reside.
A church wedding is different from a civil
ceremony in that it is set within the context of the Christian faith and we
would expect those who want to marry in church to acknowledge this in their
lives and actions. It is not necessary for couples to be members of the
church at this stage but they should consider taking steps towards becoming
a member. Classes for new members are held twice a year in the spring and
autumn. Please contact the church office if you'd like to enrol for them.
We've prepared a comprehensive booklet with
advice, information and contact details for those planning a wedding .
Subjects as diverse as divorcees, mixed marriages, the marriage notices
(banns). the ceremony and even speeches are covered. The leaflet is
available on line from our
e-publications page or in print form from our
church office.
If after reading the booklet you would like
more information before deciding what to do please don't hesitate to contact
the church office. The minister will be happy to see you at this early stage
if his advice would be helpful.
Good luck and best wishes for your special
day!
